Artex Ceiling Contractors you can Trust across the South of England

Expert Artex Removal in Kingston upon Thames and all Surrounding Areas

Here at Key Asbestos Services Ltd, we receive many queries about Artex removal. A textured coating, Artex is used to create a decorative finish commonly found on ceilings and walls, often personalised into swirls or other attractive patterns.

It reached peak popularity between the 1960s and 1980s and was a common feature in homes up and down the country. However, a lot of Artex, particularly predating the mid-1980’s contains asbestos.

As experienced asbestos contractors, we visit customers across Kingston upon Thames and the wider London area, as well as into Berkshire, Hampshire, Kent, Surrey and Sussex regions.

Asbestos contained in a hardened surface, such as Artex, means there is often little need to take any action; however, it is crucial to speak with an asbestos specialist before commencing any building work, including sanding and the installation of fixtures and fittings. The ban on asbestos means that newly produced Artex is safe. Yet older Artex that is disturbed poses a danger, due to the likelihood of carcinogenic fibres it contains.

Artex Removal Specialists

We can safely carry out Artex removal on ceilings and walls before any renovations, so customers have peace of mind that their homes are asbestos-free. Quite often, Artex will feature in multiple rooms, requiring extensive removal work; however, our operatives work efficiently, without compromising on safety. We do all we can to facilitate your building project, whilst providing customers with assurance that any known asbestos is safely contained.

One of the most common queries we have is concerning Artex and textured coatings that may contain asbestos. The best course of action is to establish whether asbestos is present  and then work out what remedial action is required if it is present in the coating.

We carry out the removal of Artex and textured coatings in advance of refurbishment works or to achieve a 100% asbestos-free house or office. Artex can be left ‘in situ’ if in good condition and there is no likelihood of it being disturbed. If changing lighting, removing walls or carrying out refurbishment or demolition work that requires disturbance of the coated walls or ceilings, removal will be required.

We can target small areas where only limited amounts of Artex need removing, such as when changing lighting. Our team has carried out numerous projects, most recently in Ham, Kingston and West Molesey, where we have removed asbestos-coated ceilings throughout a house. Where the ceilings are plasterboard or lath and plaster, the ceiling will need to be removed to ensure all the asbestos is safely extracted.

Where the ceilings are concrete, we need to scrape the coating from the ceiling. We have carried out jobs like this in Sutton and Twickenham in the last month, where the works were in advance of installing a new kitchen and bathroom.

Asbestos materials were often used in in houses, flats, shops, offices and industrial buildings built in the 1950s, 60s and 70s.
